Health Insurance vs. Love Insurance

A lot of people are talking about the state of health insurance and health care in this country. And that’s a good thing. Couples would do well to talk about “love insurance” for their relationships as well. What is love insurance? I’m glad you asked. Love insurance is an umbrella that couples have put in place to safeguard their relationship. Think about it. If people took the same amount of care with their love relationships as they do with their healthcare (assuming they are healthy) they might actually improve the quality of their relationships, and they might last longer (especially marriage relationships).

So what is this umbrella of love insurance? Any part of a good health plan requires that you get a checkup. Right? Well, lovers need to check in to see where each other is at to help ensure a healthy relationship. Find a time that’s right for you to talk together. It could be after work, before work, or maybe after the kids go to bed. Whatever works best for both of you. Talk, snuggle, and take each other’s pulse and see what the other person needs. Then do you best to give it to them.

Speaking the other person’s love language is giving your relationship vital nutrients that it needs. Another tactic is to feed each other nutritious “love food” spending time together, speaking kind words, doing things for each other, giving gifts, or giving physical touch – not necessarily sexual touching.

Exercising your love is another part of the love insurance plan that is critical. Doing all of the previous activities mentioned on a regular basis keeps those “love muscles” strong and limber, and keeps the “love circulation” going. Don’t let your love become a couch potato. Keep your love active by actively pursuing your partner.

The last, but not least, part of the love plan involves staying away from the toxic stuff that can kill a relationship. Keeping secrets, lying, acting selfishly, keeping in anger, and jealousy can really do in your love. So…just don’t do it! Ok? Just say no!
