1000 Questions for Couples: Getting to Know Your Girlfriend, Your Fiance, or Your Spouse

If you’d ask your partner (girlfriend, fiancé, spouse) a thousand questions, good questions that were well thought out, don’t you think that you’d get to know them pretty well. Maybe you’d even get to know them well enough that you could make a better decision on whether or not you’re compatible enough to marry that person. Or, maybe you could learn enough about your spouse in order to make your marriage better and enjoy a deeper sense of love and fulfillment. And, you might just being able to avoid attending couples counseling.

Some of the questions could be more general to start out with, like about her favorites – what turns her on or off. You can progress to questions about her family – potential in-laws. Next you can ask questions that explore what dreams and aspirations she has for her future career and family. Ask questions about finances and sex should also be discussed, but not right away. Take your time. Don’t scare her off right away. I knew a guy once who felt he had to tell women right away about all of his faults and problems, or blurt out the first thing that came to his mind. Funny, he could never understand why wasn’t getting any return dates with the same women.

Ideally, these questions will spur on a dialogue – you know, a conversation – about how both of you think and feel about these things. After reading through the questions, one thing that became clear to me was that my wife and I have changed a lot in the way we think and feel about certain things. As we get older we have placed more importance on money and planning for the future. We are in our 40’s now, and we realize that we don’t have much time left to mess around.

I have found a great resource on this exact topic. Check out Michael Webb’s “1000 Questions for Couples.” In his book Michael Webb does an excellent job of covering these questions – and even more! Start enjoying your marriage more today. Get the knowledge you need today to make the right choice for your life’s partner.
